Part 1

Undoing the Way We See Things Now

Lesson 46

God is the love in which I forgive.

God does not forgive, because He never condemned. And there must be condemnation before forgiveness is necessary. Forgiveness is the great need of this world, but that is because it is a world of illusions. Those who forgive are thus releasing themselves from the world of illusions, while those who withhold forgiveness are binding themselves to it. As you condemn only yourself, so do you forgive only yourself.

2 Although God does not forgive, His love is nevertheless the basis of forgiveness. Fear condemns and love forgives. Forgiveness thus undoes what fear has produced, returning the mind to the awareness of God. For this reason, forgiveness can truly be called salvation. It is the means by which illusions disappear.

3 Today’s exercises require at least three full five-minute practice periods, and as many shorter applications as possible. Begin the longer practice periods by repeating today’s idea to yourself as usual. Close your eyes as you do so, and spend a minute or two in searching your mind for those whom you have not forgiven. It does not matter “how much” you have not forgiven. You have forgiven them entirely or not at all.

4 If you are doing the exercises well, you should have no difficulty in finding a number of people you have not forgiven. It is a safe rule that anyone you do not like is a suitable subject. Mention each one by name, saying:

God is the love in which I forgive you,_______________.

5 The purpose of the first phase of today’s practice is to put you in a better position to forgive yourself. After you have applied the idea for today to all those who have come to mind, tell yourself:

God is the love in which I forgive myself.

Then devote the remainder of the practice period to adding related ideas such as:

God is the love with which I love myself.

God is the love in which I am blessed.

6 The form of these applications may vary considerably, but the central idea should not be lost sight of. You might say, for example:

I cannot be guilty because I am a Son of God.

I have already been forgiven.

No fear is possible in a mind beloved of God.

There is no need to attack because love has forgiven me.

The practice period should end, however, with a repetition of today’s idea as originally stated.

7 The shorter applications may consist of a repetition of the idea either in the original or in a related form, as you prefer. Be sure, however, to make more specific applications if they are needed. They will be needed at any time during the day when you become aware of any kind of negative reaction to anyone, present or not. In this event, tell him silently:

God is the love in which I forgive you.

Personal Notes:

God is the Love in which I forgive.

God is the Love in which I forgive myself.

God is the Love in which I forgive others.

God is the Love in which I Love myself.

God is the Love in which I am Blessed.

I cannot be guilty because I am a son of God. I have already been forgiven. No fear is possible in a mind of the beloved. There is no need to attack because Love has forgiven me. I had a struggle with the first sentence of the first paragraph of this lesson, all I could hear was “God does not forgive” it rattled me to the point where I couldn’t absorb the rest of the sentence “because He has never condemned” I felt the mental blocks going up that prevent me from seeing Truth. In the resistance I was experiencing it blocked my vision and hearing of Holy Spirit. I had to take a time out and just let it sit, instead of struggling with it, I put it aside, asked Holy Spirit to illuminate the Truth and message for me. I watched a movie and gave my struggle to God. When I came back to the lesson it all unfolded before me with such Love and ease of how God’s Love for us is so immeasurable, unconditional, so Perfect that He sees us as sinless but knows that we need His Love given to us to forgive. In knowing that something that is challenging for one, is easy for another, I wanted to put my struggle today out there just as a reminder, all we need to do is put our defenses down, give it to God and remember He’s got this! To never forget Holy Spirit is always right there to teach us and illuminate the Truth for us, we need only ask. (Paragraph 8 of Introduction to Part 1 Lessons; Remember only this: You need not believe the ideas, you need not accept them, and you need not welcome them. Some of them you may actively resist. None of this will matter, or decrease their efficacy. But allow yourself to make no exceptions in applying the ideas the exercises contain. Whatever your reaction to the ideas may be use them. Nothing more than this is required.) God is the Love in which I forgive. I have been so blessed and have experienced so much healing of my mind to rightmindedness from the studying of A Course in Miracles over the past two years, Peace is mine more and more, day by day, bit by bit. I pray for all my brothers, sisters and myself for continued guidance, wisdom, discernment, protection, and illumination of purpose in The Way, The Truth, The Life in Christ Jesus, Amen. Thank you for sharing with me. Walk in Love my friend!
